How Much Does Solar Cost in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania doesn't have a single "solar price," and any article that prints one flat number for every home is misrepresenting how pricing works. Here's what actually determines cost.

What drives solar cost in PA
- System size, set by your annual kWh usage
- Equipment choice — panels and inverters
- Battery storage, if included
- Roof complexity, pitch, and accessibility
- Electrical work required at the panel
- Permitting and inspection, which vary by township
- Warranty and labor coverage
Township-level permitting differences can matter in Pennsylvania — different municipalities have different fee structures and processes. That's part of why two homes in neighboring towns can have different installed costs.
How PA incentives affect net cost
For qualifying homeowners, the federal 30% tax credit applies to an owned residential system placed in service in qualifying years. Pennsylvania does not currently have a comparable state solar incentive program to New Jersey's SREC-II structure — so the economics in PA lean more on electricity savings and the federal credit. Always confirm current program details for your situation.
