How Much Does Solar Cost in New Jersey?
There's no single "solar price" that applies to every New Jersey home. A useful cost conversation starts with what actually drives the price — not a number pulled from a chart.

Why we won't print one flat price
What determines the cost of a solar system
- System size in kW (driven by your annual usage)
- Panel efficiency and brand
- Inverter type (microinverters vs string)
- Battery storage, if added
- Roof complexity and accessibility
- Electrical work required (panel upgrades, etc.)
- Permitting and inspection costs
- Warranty and labor coverage included
Cost per watt — a useful comparison tool
Price-per-watt (total system price divided by system size in watts) is one way to normalize apples-to-apples comparisons between quotes. But it's only meaningful when the quotes use similar equipment, warranty, and labor terms. A lower price per watt with cheaper equipment or weaker labor coverage isn't automatically a better deal.
How incentives affect your net cost
For qualifying homeowners, the federal 30% tax credit and any applicable New Jersey incentive value (see NJ Solar Incentives) can reduce the effective net cost of an owned system. How much depends on your tax situation and current program terms — not every homeowner qualifies the same way.
